Why hunting boots need care products

Care products restore the water resistance that wet grass, mud and frequent drying strip from leather and textile. A waterproofing spray closes the surface pores, boot cream feeds the leather and keeps it from cracking, and a bootjack lets you pull off muddy boots without touching them. For a hunter this means dry feet through a full day outside.

Wet boots in a high seat mean cold feet and a shorter sit. Treated leather keeps water out and stays supple, so the boot does not rub during a long stalk.

Chiruca waterproofing spray

A 150 ml spray that renews the water-repellent finish on the outer layer. It suits leather and combined hunting boots, including footwear with a membrane, because it does not block the pores that let the boot breathe.

Härkila leather and textile impregnation

A neutral product for boots that combine leather with fabric panels. One bottle treats the whole boot, so you do not need separate products for each material. It also works on other leather hunting gear.

Chiruca boot cream

The cream feeds the leather, returns its flexibility and supports its natural resistance to moisture. Use it after several spray treatments, once the leather starts to look pale or dry.

Härkila bootjack

A dark brown bootjack that lets you pull off tall boots while standing, hands clean of mud. Practical by the back door or at the hunting cabin.

How to choose the right product

Choose by the material of your boots and by the stage of care you are missing. Smooth leather takes both cream and spray, combined boots with textile need one universal product, and membrane footwear needs a spray that leaves the pores open. Check these points before buying:

1. Identify the boot material: smooth leather, leather with textile, or footwear with a membrane.
2. For leather boots take both the spray and the cream, since they do different jobs.
3. For combined boots pick the Härkila leather and textile product.
4. If you often hunt wet ground, keep a spare bottle of spray, because the protection wears off after every wet outing.

Care after the hunt

Back home, wipe the mud off with a damp cloth, pull out the insoles and dry the boots at room temperature, away from the radiator or the fire. Heat dries leather out and opens the seams. Apply the spray on clean, slightly damp boots and the cream only on fully dry leather.

Before the season, treat your boots twice with a day between coats. During the season, renew the protection after every wet hunt so water has no time to soak into the seams.
