Telescopic batons

Telescopic batons and other impact self-defense tools for hunters who walk dark forest roads before dawn or return to a parked car after last light. The category holds Walther ProSecur and Perfecta batons, a police tonfa and tactical pens for everyday carry.

Telescopic batons

Telescopic batons and other impact tools cover the situations a hunting firearm cannot: a stray dog charging on the walk to the high seat, an uneasy encounter at a trailhead car park, a night alone at camp. Compact and legal for adults, they buy you distance and time to react.

Why a hunter carries a telescopic baton

A telescopic baton is a collapsible impact tool. Closed, it fits a jacket pocket or a belt holster; one flick of the wrist extends it to full working length. For a hunter it is the backup layer for the moments when the rifle is cased, slung on your back or not with you at all.

The most common real threat in the field is not a person but an aggressive dog. Loose farm dogs near homesteads, feral dogs drawn to bait sites and carcass remains, even hunting dogs separated from the pack during a driven hunt can charge without warning. An extended baton keeps the animal off your legs and often ends the encounter without a single blow, since firing a shot near houses or out of season brings serious legal trouble.

What this category holds

The assortment covers Walther and Perfecta telescopic batons, a classic police tonfa and tactical pens. They differ in length, carry method and purpose: some are built for constant pocket carry, others belong in the vehicle or at the hunting cabin. Each group is described below so you can match the tool to your routine.

Compact telescopic batons

The shortest Walther ProSecur model measures 17 cm closed and 41 cm extended. It weighs little, disappears into a trouser pocket and does not dig into your side during long hours in the high seat. Choose it if you want a tool you actually carry every day, not one that stays at home.

Full-length batons

The Perfecta 66 cm baton and the Walther ProSecur models extending to about 65 cm give you reach. A longer baton holds a charging dog farther from your legs, and the loud snap of extension alone often stops a confrontation before it starts. For field carry, pair these with a belt holster.

Police tonfa

The PB-21/53-HS tonfa has a side handle, so it blocks as well as strikes. It takes some practice but sits firmly in the hand and is hard to knock away. Most owners keep the tonfa in the vehicle or at the hunting cabin, since it is too bulky for daily carry.

Tactical pens

The Perfecta TP II and TP III and the Walther TPL are the most discreet group. Each is a working pen with a hardened tip that breaks a car window in an emergency or defends at close quarters. The Walther TPL adds a built-in flashlight, handy for checking gear before first light.

How to choose

Four things decide the choice: where you will keep the tool, your build and hand size, how much practice you will invest and what you realistically defend against. A hunter covering long distances on foot needs a light compact baton; one who drives to the stand can pick something longer and heavier.

  1. Match the carry method: pocket carry favours the 17 to 41 cm model, belt carry allows longer batons.
  2. Weigh it in your hand: too heavy tires the arm, too light will not deter a large dog.
  3. Think about distance: a longer baton keeps the threat farther away, a shorter one draws faster.
  4. Decide how discreet you need to be: a tactical pen raises no questions at a shop counter or a petrol station.
  5. Keep one tool in the vehicle, because that is where trouble most often finds you after dark.

Practical advice for the field

A defensive tool works only if you reach it within a second. Carry the baton in a belt holster or an upper jacket pocket, never at the bottom of a pack, and practise the opening motion with the gloves you hunt in through the cold months until it is automatic.

Against a dog, voice and posture come first. Extend the baton, face the animal and command loudly; most dogs stop there. Strike only when a real attack comes. After use in wet terrain, wipe the shaft dry and oil the joints now and then so the mechanism does not seize in frost.

The legal side

Telescopic batons and tonfas are sold in Lithuania to adults only, and their use is bounded by the rules of justified self-defense: you may defend against a real attack, with force proportionate to the threat. Carry responsibly in public places and treat the baton as a last resort, not a first answer.

Walther and Perfecta

Both brands in this category are German names with a long record among shooters. Walther is best known for its pistols, and its ProSecur line is built for civilian self-defense, from pocket batons to the pen with a light. Perfecta supplies simple, affordable tools, including the longest baton here and two tactical pens.

Round out your kit with the neighbouring categories: pepper spray works at a distance, stun guns cover close contact, and alarms draw attention when you need it. The full range sits in the self-defense section. If you are unsure which tool fits your situation, write to us and we will advise.
