Flash hiders
Flash hiders reduce muzzle flash when you fire at dusk or in low light, so your eyes recover faster on a driven hunt and you keep track of the animal. This range covers ASE UTRA BoreLock and A-TEC A-Flow models in 1/2x28 UNEF, M14x1 LH and other threads.

A flash hider is a muzzle attachment that spreads the gas leaving the barrel and cuts down the visible flash and part of its directional sound. For a hunter this matters when firing at dawn or dusk during a driven hunt, where your eyes need to recover fast enough to follow the animal after the shot. This range includes ASE UTRA BoreLock and A-TEC A-Flow models built for 5.56mm and 7.62mm rifles with different thread patterns.
Why a flash hider matters on a hunt
Muzzle flash cuts your vision for a moment right when you need it most, whether that is placing a second shot or watching where the animal ran. A flash hider spreads the gas sideways instead of letting it collect into one bright ball in front of your sight.
On a driven hunt, firing from a high seat or a beat line at dusk, how fast your eyes recover in those seconds decides whether you see the animal drop or track its escape. The same applies on grey autumn or winter mornings, when low light makes an unhidered flash stand out even more.
How the ASE UTRA BoreLock system works
BoreLock is ASE UTRA's quick-attach mount that lets the same muzzle base carry either a flash hider or, later, a sound suppressor, without disturbing your zero. The base stays fixed to the barrel, and the flash hider or suppressor locks onto it in seconds.
This suits a hunter who runs a flash hider one day and wants a suppressor mounted the next, without a trip back to the range to re-zero. The AU740, AU741, AU750 and other models in this range use exactly this mount.
Types by caliber and thread
You pick a flash hider by your rifle's caliber and barrel thread, since a mismatched thread simply will not seat or center correctly.
5.56mm models
The AU740 with 1/2x28 UNEF thread and the AU741 with M14x1 LH thread suit 5.56mm rifles, commonly used for lighter hunting work and sport shooting.
7.62mm models
The AU756 with M15x1 HK thread fits 7.62mm rifles, including HK417-type platforms, where a larger, sturdier base is needed.
Hiper Short compact models
The AU750-S, AU765-S and the Hiper Short 7.62/5.56mm variant are shorter, adding less length and weight to the barrel, which helps moving through dense cover or firing from a tight high seat.
A-TEC A-Flow models
The A-Flow 7.62 in 1/2"-28 UNEF and 5/8"-24 UNEF gives you a second maker's take on the same caliber, so you can match the thread size to your own barrel.
How to choose the right model
- Check your exact barrel thread and pitch first, since 1/2x28 UNEF, M14x1 LH, M15x1 HK and 5/8x24 UNEF are not interchangeable.
- Match the flash hider to your rifle's caliber, since 5.56mm and 7.62mm models have different bore diameters inside.
- If you plan to run a sound suppressor later, pick a BoreLock model so the same base works with both.
- Weigh up length if you hunt in thick cover or from a cramped seat, where a Short model sits more comfortably.
Mounting and care in the field
Check before every hunt that the flash hider is seated tight, since a wet or muddy thread can feel locked when it is not fully home. After firing in wet or muddy terrain, wipe down the base and thread so sand or clay does not build up between the parts and slow down the next mount or removal.
Check periodically that the flash hider has not worked loose after a few shots, especially when firing from different positions during a driven hunt. A dry thread with a light film of oil seats easier and resists corrosion after rain or snow.
Brands
ASE UTRA has operated in Finland since 1994, making sound suppressors and flash hiders for hunting, sport shooting and service use, known for its BoreLock quick-attach mount. A-TEC is a second maker whose A-Flow line covers the same calibers with an alternative thread selection.
