Throwers & Throwing Plates

Clay target throwers, a mechanical trap and clay pigeons for a hunter's off-season shooting practice, plus Stil Crin slingshots with steel, ceramic and plastic ammo. The range includes Stil Crin, RANGE MAXX, Do All Outdoors and Umarex products for keeping your aim sharp between hunting seasons.

Throwers & Throwing Plates

A clean shot at a rising duck or a bird flushed during a driven hunt does not happen by itself. It has to be maintained all year, and clay shooting is the closest substitute for wing shooting you can set up on your own ground. This category holds hand-held clay throwers, a mechanical trap, a stock of clay pigeons and Stil Crin slingshots with ammo for quiet aim training.

Why hunters need this gear

Clay target throwers let you practise shooting at a moving target wherever it suits you: on a farmstead, in a gravel pit or at a range. For a hunter this means cleaner shots at ducks and partridge in season and fewer birds wounded and lost. A slingshot trains the eye silently, with no powder and no noise to spook game nearby. A flying clay makes your whole body work: stance, gun mount, swing ahead of the target and follow-through. These are exactly the movements that either run on instinct during a hunt or fail completely if the shotgun spent the summer in the safe. Regular sessions with a thrower before the season shorten the road to your first clean double.

Types of gear in this category

The assortment falls into two product groups: clay throwing equipment with targets, and slingshots with ammunition. The first is for shotgun training, the second for daily accuracy work without a firearm. Each type is described below so you can pick by how and where you shoot.

Hand-held clay throwers

The Do All Outdoors hand thrower is the simplest way to put a clay in the air. It is cheap, fits in a hunting pack and needs no assembly. You will need a partner to throw for you, which makes it a good pick when you train with a hunting friend or teach a young hunter to shoot.

Mechanical clay trap

The RANGE MAXX CH01 mechanical trap launches clays on a consistent line and speed. A repeatable trajectory lets you work on one specific fault: shooting at a going-away, crossing or rising target until the movement becomes second nature. The trap suits a lone shooter as well as a group preparing for the season.

Clay pigeons

A box of 150 clay pigeons covers several serious sessions. The clays work with both the hand thrower and the mechanical trap, so it pays to order targets together with the throwing gear so a weekend session does not stop halfway.

Slingshots

The Stil Crin 300 is a classic slingshot for a pocket or a pack, while the Stil Crin 305 has a forearm brace that steadies the draw and lets you shoot more accurately. The Stil Crin 301 replacement power band extends the life of your slingshot, since the rubber is the part that wears out first.

Slingshot ammo

The ammunition choice is wide: Umarex steel .30 calibre balls in packs of 72, Umarex ceramic balls in packs of 50, and Stil Crin plastic and metal shot. Steel flies most consistently, while ceramic and plastic suit safer backyard training where ricochet is unwanted.

How to choose the right option

The choice depends on what you want to train and how many people will shoot together. Before ordering, think about where you will practise, how often and with what goal, then pick from this list:

  1. Preparing for the wildfowl season with a shotgun: choose a thrower or the mechanical trap plus a stock of clay pigeons.
  2. Training in pairs or with family: the Do All Outdoors hand thrower is enough.
  3. Shooting alone and wanting repeatable targets: take the RANGE MAXX CH01 trap.
  4. Training your eye daily without noise: pick a Stil Crin slingshot, and the braced Stil Crin 305 for precise shooting.
  5. Buying your first slingshot: add a spare power band and a supply of ammo right away.

Practical advice for the field

Choose your training spot as carefully as a shooting sector on a hunt: behind the target there must be a safe backstop with no roads, buildings or grazing livestock. Wear hearing and eye protection when shooting clays, because fragments fly in unexpected directions. Keep clays dry, as the ones at the bottom of a damp box turn brittle and break in the trap. Protect the slingshot rubber from direct sun and frost, and warm it in a pocket before winter shooting, otherwise the draw weakens and the ball drops low. After a session collect clay fragments and shot, above all if you practise on hunting grounds where game feeds.

Brands in the range

The category holds four manufacturers whose products complement each other. Stil Crin is an Italian maker known for gun care products and slingshots, and we stock spare parts for its models. Do All Outdoors builds throwing equipment for clay shooting, RANGE MAXX stands for mechanical traps, and Umarex supplies slingshot ammunition. This mix lets you put a complete training kit together in one place.

For your sessions you may also want shooting ear protection, shooting safety glasses and shooting rests and sticks. If you are unsure which thrower or slingshot fits your training, write to us and we will advise.
