Chairs

Hunting chairs for quiet waiting on stand and along the driven line: Walkstool Comfort and Basic aluminium tripods, wooden FRANK and leather hunter's seats, plus the height adjustable AKAH shooting stick chair. Light, packable and ready for long hours in the field.

Chairs

A good shot starts with a still body. After two hours standing at a forest edge your legs tire, your weight shifts from foot to foot, and every one of those movements is visible to game from a long way off. A folding hunting chair solves this: you sit down, your silhouette shrinks, your breathing settles, and you can wait as long as the morning demands. This category holds Swedish Walkstool tripods, wooden FRANK and leather hunter's seats, and the height adjustable AKAH shooting stick chair.

Why a hunter needs a chair

A chair lets you stay in one spot for hours without fatigue and without movement. A standing hunter constantly shifts weight, twigs crack underfoot, and tired legs cut the sit short. Seated low, you blend into the background, and at the moment of the shot your body is already in a stable position.

Typical situations: waiting at the edge of a clearing where there is no high seat, holding a position on the driven line on a cold morning, wildfowling at a field margin, and resting while dragging game out. Anywhere the wait runs past half an hour, a seated hunter shoots calmer and straighter than a standing one.

Chair types in this category

The range consists of folding aluminium and wooden tripods plus a shooting stick seat. They differ in weight, height and purpose: the light Walkstool models suit hunters who cover distance, the classic wooden chairs suit those who value tradition and solidity, and the adjustable AKAH stick suits stalkers who stop only briefly.

Walkstool Comfort series

Comfort models have telescopic aluminium legs, so one stool works both at full sitting height and folded low for a crouch in thick cover. The category carries 45, 55, 65 and 75 cm versions, so both short and tall hunters find their size. The seat is roomy and the mesh fabric holds no water after rain.

Walkstool Basic series

The Basic 50 cm and 60 cm models are simpler: fixed length legs, an even lighter build and a lower price. They are a sound choice for driven hunts, where you need to open the stool fast, sit on the line, and clip it back to your pack in seconds once the drive ends.

Wooden tripod chairs

The wooden FRANK tripod (65 cm), the 60 cm hunting tripod and the hunter's chair with a leather seat are the classics: wood makes no clatter against a rifle stock, leather moulds to the sitter over time, and the look matches traditional hunting dress. They weigh more than aluminium, so they fit best where the carry is short.

Height adjustable shooting stick chair

The AKAH model does two jobs: while stalking it works as a walking support on wet or uneven ground, and when you stop it turns into a seat in seconds. The height adjusts, so you can match it to your build and to the slope you are glassing from.

How to choose

Choose by your style of hunting and your height, not by looks. For a stalker who walks far, weight and packed length matter most; for a stand hunter, seat height and comfort; for a driven hunt, speed of deployment. Before ordering, check these points:

  1. Height for your build: seated, your knees should sit at roughly a right angle; hunters over 180 cm do better with 65 or 75 cm models, shorter hunters with 45 or 55 cm.
  2. Weight and packed length: if the stool rides on your pack all day, every hundred grams counts.
  3. Leg type: telescopic legs let you change height, fixed legs are simpler and quieter.
  4. Seat material: mesh fabric shrugs off rain and dries fast, while leather and wood feel warmer during a long cold sit.
  5. The ground you hunt on: narrow feet sink into soft meadow or marshy ground, so wider feet or a wooden chair work better there.

Field advice

A chair only helps if you handle it silently. Open it before last light, rock it to check for creaks, and pick firm ground so the legs do not sink when you lean into the shot. A few notes from practice:

  • Practise opening and folding with one hand at home: on the line, the other hand holds the gun.
  • On soft ground, put a branch or a piece of bark under the feet so the seat does not tilt.
  • After rain, dry wooden and leather parts away from direct heat, or the wood will crack.
  • Keep your feet under you rather than stretched out: you will rise for the shot faster and quieter.
  • On frosty mornings add a seat pad, because cold pulls straight through a mesh seat.

Brands

Walkstool is a Swedish maker whose telescopic tripod stools are used by hunters and wildlife watchers across Europe; the category carries both the Comfort and Basic series. AKAH is an old German hunting equipment house, represented here by the height adjustable stick seat. FRANK builds wooden tripods valued for their solidity and quiet use.

Pair your seat with seat pads for the cold season, and for resting at home or in the hunting lodge have a look at puffs. If you are unsure which height or model fits your hunting style, write to us and we will advise.
