A pepper spray canister is the simplest nonlethal defense tool a hunter can carry: it fits in a jacket pocket, needs no permit and works within a second. The walk to the high seat before dawn, an aggressive stray dog at the edge of a village, a stranger next to your car at a forest parking spot: these are the moments it was made for. This category holds 37 products: WALTHER ProSecur and PERFECTA Stop Attack sprays plus the KO classics, from 16 ml pocket models to a 370 ml home canister and WALTHER gas pistol systems.
Who these sprays are for
These canisters protect you from aggressive people and dogs in situations where a firearm cannot or should not be used. Hunters, their family members, dog owners and drivers choose them because the spray stops an attacker instantly, causes intense but temporary burning and blindness, and leaves no lasting injury. It is defense you can carry everywhere your rifle cannot go.
For a hunter the need arises more often than people think. A hunting firearm is for game, not for settling conflict, and using it against a person or someone else's dog almost always ends in court. A canister in your pocket lets you drive off strays harassing your kennel, walk home calmly from an evening hunt through a dark village, or arm a family member who holds no firearms license.
Spray types in this category
Four spray patterns are available here: a directed jet, a wide fog cloud, a sticky gel and canisters that fire at any angle, joined by pistol systems with insertable cartridges. Each pattern suits a different setting, so pick the type by where you will carry it and in what conditions you expect to use it.
Jet sprays
A jet fires a narrow, aimed stream at the attacker's face. It resists wind and gives the lowest risk of contaminating yourself, which makes it the best choice in the open: fields, forest roads, the path to your stand. This is the largest group here, with WALTHER ProSecur models in 16, 47, 53 and 74 ml, PERFECTA Stop Attack in 40 and 50 ml, and the KO JET 50 ml.
Fog sprays
Fog creates a broad cloud, so precise aim is not needed. It works well against several attackers or a fast, weaving dog, but is more sensitive to wind in open country. The fog group includes the WALTHER ProSecur 53 and 74 ml fog versions, the KO FOG 50 ml and the PERFECTA Stop Attack CS 40 ml.
Gel sprays
Gel sticks to the attacker's face and barely drifts in the air, so you can use it indoors, inside a car or in stronger wind without gassing yourself. The category carries the WALTHER ProSecur gel 50 ml, which fires the gel as a directed jet.
Canisters for any angle and pistol systems
The WALTHER ProSecur 360 sprays in any position, even upside down, which matters when you are grappling or on the ground. The large WALTHER ProSecur HOME 370 ml is meant to stay at home or in a hunting lodge. For more precise control there is the WALTHER PGS pistol with an insertable gas cartridge and a separate insertable cartridge for the WALTHER PDP.
How to choose a pepper spray
Five things decide the choice: spray pattern, capacity, agent type, physical size and where the canister will live. Answer clearly where you will carry it and what you expect to defend against, and the 37 products in this category quickly narrow down to a handful of candidates. Work through the points in order.
- Spray pattern: choose a jet for open ground, gel for rooms and the car, fog against several attackers or a fast moving dog.
- Capacity: the 16 ml model rides on a keyring, 40 and 50 ml are the universal everyday format, 74 ml gives more spraying time, and the 370 ml HOME unit stays at home.
- Agent type: OC pepper agent works on both people and aggressive dogs, while a CS version such as the PERFECTA Stop Attack CS acts as a tear agent.
- Accessibility: you must draw the canister within a second, so size it to the pocket, belt or bag where it will sit every day.
- Extra features: a safety cap against accidental discharge, spraying at any angle as on the ProSecur 360, or a pistol grip for steadier aim.
Field advice for hunters
A canister protects you only if you can reach it within seconds and have fired one at least once. Carry it in the same pocket every time so your hand finds it without thinking, and at home keep it in one agreed place that every adult in the house knows. A few habits make the difference.
Check the wind before you spray: fog pushed back by a headwind lands on you, so in open ground favor a jet or gel model. Fire short bursts at the face from two or three metres and open the distance immediately. Do not leave the canister baking in a car in summer sun, since heat raises the pressure inside. Check the expiry date every season and use an expired canister for practice outdoors, spraying downwind at a target.
Brands in this category
The category is built on German makers: WALTHER and PERFECTA, joined by the classic KO canisters. All of them have long histories on the European defense market, so you are choosing between proven series with clearly defined spray patterns and capacities rather than between anonymous producers.
The WALTHER ProSecur line spans every pattern and size, from the 16 ml keyring model to the 370 ml HOME unit, so you can keep one brand across your pocket, car and lodge. The PERFECTA Stop Attack series offers affordable OC and CS versions, and the KO JET and KO FOG are proven 50 ml models. The gas pistol systems are WALTHER's as well: the PGS pistol and insertable cartridges allow a firm two handed hold and steadier aim.
Legal requirements in Lithuania
In Lithuania gas sprays are category D weapons: you need no permit to buy or carry one, but you must be at least 18 years old. The spray may only be used in genuine self-defense against a direct attack; spraying preemptively or during an ordinary argument is treated as violence. Store it away from children and handle it with the same discipline as any weapon from your gun cabinet.
Pepper spray works best as one layer of protection. Look through stun guns, telescopic batons, tactical vests and alarms to complete your kit, and if you are unsure which canister fits your situation, write to us and we will help you choose.
