Suspenders
Hunting suspenders keep your trousers in place through a long day in the high seat or a driven hunt, when a belt gets crowded out by a cartridge pouch or knife sheath. The range includes AKAH, Harkila, ZUB, Alaska Hunter, Chevalier and Blaser, from decorated leather braces to elastic Tech models and high-vis orange safety suspenders.
Suspenders do one simple job for a hunter - they keep your trousers where they belong through hours spent sitting still in a high seat, crawling through undergrowth or walking a driven hunt, when a belt keeps sliding under the weight of a cartridge pouch or knife sheath. This category holds 14 models from AKAH, Harkila, ZUB, Alaska Hunter, Carl-Eric, Chevalier and Blaser, covering everyday stalking gear and traditional occasion wear alike.
Why hunters choose suspenders over a belt
A belt loaded with a full cartridge pouch, knife and sheath digs into your waist and slips down after hours sitting in a high seat or climbing into a ladder stand. Suspenders spread the weight of your trousers across your shoulders, so your waist stays free and you stay comfortable through a long sit. That matters most in winter, when warm base layers under your hunting jacket push your trousers to sit lower than usual.
Types of suspenders in this range
The assortment splits into three clear groups - decorated leather braces, elastic technical suspenders and high-visibility safety suspenders for driven hunts.
Decorated leather braces
AKAH offers Wild Boar (green with a boar motif), Stag (brown/green with a deer motif) and Chamios (brown/green with a chamois motif). This is the classic, traditional hunting style with an embroidered animal image on leather straps - suited to hunting gatherings, driven hunts with a long-standing party, or simply everyday wear if you prefer the traditional look.
Plain metal-buckle suspenders
ZUB models come in green with metal buckles, in 3cm and 5cm widths. The narrower 3cm version sits lighter under thinner clothing, while the 5cm version spreads the load better when your trouser pockets carry cartridges or other gear. The metal buckles hold their set length firmly over time.
Elastic Tech suspenders
Harkila Wildboar Pro Tech (Brown/Orange blaze) and the Tech line (Shadow brown/Red, Willow green/Shadow brown) are made from stretch fabric that moves with your body over rough ground or when you crouch to take aim. Unlike stiff leather, the elastic material does not fight you when you bend down to lift game or shoulder a pack.
High-visibility safety suspenders
Chevalier Logo High Vis Orange and Alaska Hunter Orange are built for driven hunts, where bright clothing visible between the trees is required for everyone's safety. Alaska Hunter also comes in black for everyday wear outside driven hunts.
How to choose the right suspenders
- Match the color to the hunt - quiet, muted tones for stalking, mandatory high-vis orange for driven hunts.
- Check the attachment type - Harkila Carl-August uses button loops for trousers with buttons, while clip-on models fit most other trousers.
- Pick the width for your layering - narrower straps in summer, wider ones once you add thicker winter clothing underneath.
- For a traditional hunting party or a formal occasion, decorated AKAH or Carl-Eric braces suit the setting better than a sporty Tech model.
- Check the adjuster - a metal buckle (ZUB, Blaser) holds a set length more reliably than elastic webbing alone.
Field advice
Adjust your suspenders before you head into the woods, not once you are already sitting in the high seat, so nothing restricts you when you need to move fast. Decorated leather braces can pick up moisture in wet weather, so dry them separately from your trousers after the hunt. High-vis orange suspenders need to stay visible even with your jacket zipped up during a drive - choose a model that sits above waist level rather than hidden under layers.
