Layering for a high seat versus a driven hunt

A body works differently in a high seat than on a driven hunt, so clothing has to match not just the weather but how much you'll move during the day. Sitting still in a high seat on a cold morning calls for more layers and a sealed outer shell, since the body generates almost no heat on its own. Active movement through brush or forest on a driven hunt warms you fast, so a bulky layer becomes a hindrance - a lighter set plus a spare jacket in your pack works better. Changing between these two modes within one day is a normal part of hunting, not a sign that your clothing choice was wrong.

Boot care and accessories

A well cared for boot lasts several seasons and keeps water out even after ten hours in wet terrain, so care products deserve as much attention as the boot itself. Waterproofing applied before each damp season restores the leather or fabric's resistance to water. Cream or grease keeps leather flexible and stops it cracking in cold weather. Laces and insoles are the small parts that wear out first - it's worth keeping a spare set at home, especially before a longer hunting trip.
